MNF believes in conserving farmland, and future farmland. Climate-Smart Agricultural practices and their concurrent conservation practices can help.
Future climate forecasting is integrated in field management strategies. Understanding how the climate is changing in the future will help farmers as much as the local daily weather forecast plays into daily work scheduling.
Participating in carbon sequestration and other mitigation efforts could produce additional revenue streams for farmers as well as improve the quality of their agricultural output. Climate-smart agricultural practices used to sequester carbon thereby creating carbon offsets which farmers can sell on carbon markets.
To prepare for these climate changes farmers who use climate-smart agricultural practices will fair better than those we choose not to. Practices like crop rotation, cover crops, angle plowing, buffer zones and other practices will assist the soil in continuing its work with farmers in creating the food we all depend upon.
